Missfit just came back from 4 fabulous days in Bermuda! It’s a great place to cycle, run, or swim in the beautiful turquoise ocean!

While hiking along a portion of the famous Railway Trail, Missfit came across what appears to be a Bermudian outdoor gym?!

SUP stands for Stand Up Paddleboarding - and it's a blast!

SUP? Stand Up Paddleboarding. This is missfit’s new love. Toronto has had a wonderfully hot & sunny summer, the perfect weather to enjoy the newest trend: SUP! This hot new activity takes only a few minutes to learn but provides hours of enjoyment. It’s a great way to enjoy Toronto’s Blue Flag Beach and work your CORE! So get out there while the sun’s still shining and next time someone asks you what’s up? You can answer: SUP!

After a month of solid food and fitness tracking on Livestrong.com I’ve lost a solid inch around my waist! I didn’t start dieting or adopt any new method of eating, nor did I perform a cleanse. I simply started becoming more mindful of how much I was eating because I knew I was tracking it. I definitely ate a little less and made better food choices- the proof is in the pudding- which clearly I did not eat! So go for it! Own up to it!

Everyone knows that diet is an important part of developing and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, but how does the average person manage their diet? Considering almost every person I ask says they know how to ‘eat healthy’ it’s a mystery as to why they are often not seeing the results they desire. For the most part, I agree for the average person (not high level athletes) eating healthy is not rocket science. So where is the missing link? As with most things, self awareness. Most people underestimate how much they eat and how many calories the foods they eat contain. Many studies have been done on the benefits of food tracking, essentially this is raising your self awareness. How can we make tracking your diet a little easier? With my new favourite website (aside from missfit.ca!) http://www.livestrong.com/ This awesome way to track your food intake is FREE! Just log on and go to MyPlate and start becoming more aware of what you eat, how much you eat, and when you eat. You can enter the calories manually or use their thorough list that automatically drops down. The key is to track EVERYTHING! Be honest and do not underestimate the size of that chicken breast (average restaurant is probably 5oz) or how many glasses of wine you had! Yes, it takes a bit of time but it’s worth it. You will eat better overall because you are accountable, and when you see the satisfaction of staying within your daily caloric intake you’ll be hooked!

Missfit would like to thank MSC Fitness & all the people who participated & donated to the Japan Disaster Relief. On Sunday April 3rd, Missfit organized a Fitness Day to raise funds for the Red Cross Japan Tsuanmi Relief. MSC kindly opened their studio & donated their time for us to run a weight class, spin class & yoga class. Today the official donation was made and together we raised $1180! Everyone knows it’s important to exercise the body, but often we forget there are many ways to exercise the heart.

As Bob Hope once said: If you haven’t any charity in your heart, you have the worst kind of heart trouble.

Find at least 10 min everyday for exercise. A study performed by Dr. Robert Gerszten at Massachusetts General Hospital shows that 10 min of brisk exercise triggers metabolic changes (burning calories & fat & improving blood sugar control). These effects on the body can last at least an hour!

You don’t get to choose how you’re going to die or when. You can only decide how you’re going to live.

MOTIVATION: Many things motivate people to want exercise, but how many things actually get people to do it? Michelle will be that motivating voice encouraging you to enjoy your fitness.

SAFETY: Buying fitness equipment is a great first step, but not knowing how to use it can be a dangerous set back. Michelle will be looking out for your safety and teaching you how to stay injury free.

EFFECTIVE TRAINING SESSIONS: Knowing what to do and how to do it are key to any fitness success and can save you lots of time. Michelle will educate you on proper form and technique, so that you can have the most effective work out in the shortest amount of time.

INDIVIDUALIZED PROGRAMS: Not every exercise is suitable for every person. The setbacks to following a generalized program may include creating muscle imbalances, overlooking an existing injury or omitting sports-specific exercises from your routine. Michelle will assess your needs and abilities and create a program that focuses on them.

CONSISTENCY: Anyone can be taught to be safe and educated about their fitness, but if consistency is lacking, goals cannot be met and motivation will in turn be jeopardized. Michelle will help keep you on track of your commitment to fitness.

The reason most people are motivated to exercise is for a general feeling of well-being. Sometimes well-being means prevention or control of diseases such as cardiovascular, diabetes, osteoporosis, arthritis, and many types of cancer. Other times well-being simply means feeling stronger, both mentally and physically.

Whatever your reasons are I know that they are important and are always taken into consideration for each of your training sessions. Whether you want to be faster, stronger, healthier, or leaner I will train you to see that it will be done. Ultimately this means that your program is personalized for you. We will work together, adjusting and re-evaluating as you advance in order to stay on top of your goal.
